Position: Executive Director

Organization: Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS)  

Location: Northern Virginia

Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS) seeks an Executive Director who shares our  passion for local climate action and climate justice. The Executive Director leads our growing  organization, manages staff, volunteers, and the budget. Also, the Executive Director cultivates  relations with elected leaders, faith communities, funders, and our active Board of Directors.  

FACS is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that advances local solutions to the urgent moral  challenge of climate change and its disparate impacts on disadvantaged people by harnessing  the power of Northern Virginia’s faith communities, and others who share our values. We are a respected voice that has earned trust through persistent advocacy, outreach and education in  an effort to reduce carbon pollution and achieve environmental justice.  

Based in Fairfax County, Virginia, we have active Hubs in Alexandria City, Arlington and  Loudoun Counties and in the Northern and Central Shenandoah Valleys. Our Hubs work with  elected officials and senior government leaders in our local governments and public schools.  

Since our founding in 2013 by a handful of friends concerned about climate change, we have  grown into a network of 200 Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, and Unitarian Universalists,  and other faith communities, with 2,800+ supporters

Executive Director Duties: 

The Executive Director (ED) must:  

  • Lead our Advocacy, Faith Community, and Development programs, manage our staff  and contractors, and oversee our entire enterprise.  
  • Work closely with the Chair of the Board of Directors, Board committees and task forces  and support Hub leaders, in concert with the Advocacy Committee Chair, to strengthen  Hub operations.  
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including members of faith communities, community advocates, nonprofit and business leaders, and elected officials. Ensure our financial strength through our five fundraising streams: grants, individuals  and families, direct mail and email, corporate, and congregations.  
  • Communicate FACS’ unique, moral approach through presentations, interviews, newsletters, emails, editorials and other means.
  • Supervise membership and finance databases, contractual services, and sponsorships.
  • Represent FACS in public and private gatherings.

Required Qualifications: 

We encourage you to apply if you are passionate about addressing climate change and  pursuing climate justice, understand how to lead an alliance, and are able to manage multiple, competing demands under tight deadlines. Your application package should demonstrate, at a  minimum, that you have strengths in these areas: 

Development – Success in fundraising is essential to this position. Tell us how you have  approached development for other organizations, your proven track record attracting and  managing grants, how you’ve run campaigns and your overall success with development.  

Communications – You must be an experienced, compelling communicator with a variety of  audiences, in various formats.  

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – The FACS ED actively demonstrates and  models a deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, and creates a  psychologically safe and transparent culture amongst staff, volunteers, and public stakeholders.  As the ED, you must be vigilant for ways to better serve and include traditionally  underrepresented groups in FACS’ community and congregational work and lead the  development of new environmental justice initiatives. Organizational management – Tell us how you develop and maintain healthy relationships with staff, Board Members and volunteers 

Education A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required for this position.  

Location – As the FACS executive director, you’ll need to attend meetings and events in person  in Northern Virginia and across our region.

This position has a salary range of $96,000-$106,000 a year, depending on experience. We  offer an excellent benefits package that includes health, vision, and dental care; and  contributions to a retirement plan. It includes three weeks of annual leave, one week of paid  study leave, and 12 days paid sick leave per year. Additionally, FACS follows the holiday  schedule of Fairfax County, Virginia government. Mileage and gas will be reimbursed. This is a  full time, 40 hours/week position with compensatory time available for work after hours,  weekends and holidays.
