Since 2013, the nonpartisan Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (FACS) has organized faith communities in Northern Virginia and now includes a network of over 75 faith communities. FACS’ founders recognized an unmet need to organize hyperlocal interfaith climate advocacy. Although the need for action to address climate justice exists across the state of Virginia, it can be a very local and regional issue. FACS prioritizes organizing locally, where government is most accessible to its citizens. Decisions made at the county or city level directly impact people’s lives and also directly impact greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
