Prince William Food Rescue (PWFR) is a program of ACTS (Action in Community Through Service) and is an extension of their Hunger Prevention Center. They connect Donor Partners with Distribution Partners throughout the region. By leveraging technology, they were able to aggressively accomplish three primary goals:

  • Reduce Food Waste
  • Reduce Food Insecurity

Below is some data on the environmental impact they have had over the past year:

Reducing the waste stream is a key component in our #FairfaxToZero, #PWCtoZero campaign! This campaign is aiming to reduce greenhouse gases emitted, reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, if not sooner. Pursuing net zero carbon emissions is important for several reasons:

  • Eliminating carbon pollution means cleaner air, better health/quality of life, and lower healthcare costs.
  • Clean energy and energy efficiency will promote job opportunities
  • Pollution disproportionately affects our most vulnerable neighbors.
  • Environmental justice is a step towards racial justice and social justice.

Congratulations PWFR! You all deserve the spotlight for taking the lead on reducing food waste. We are extremely proud of your efforts and wish you success in your future endeavors. It will take all of us to accomplish carbon neutrality by 2050. If you wish to join our #FairaxToZero, #PWCtoZero campaign, click here to find out how you can join and help spread the word.
