FACS ALX Local Impact During Earth Month!

  • Kudos to Jerry Paulson, FACS ALX member, for a great Earth Day presentation on health, children & climate! Recording available here.
  • Win: Green Building Staff support in the City Budget! Comments and testimony by members of FACS ALX and other local groups helped secure funding in the coming year’s budget. This additional staff support will enable the City to proactively negotiate stronger green building practices in new development projects.
  • Letter in Alexandria Times on Landmark Redevelopment: FACS ALX members Jerry Paulson and Bill Pugh wrote this op-ed on the positive features but importantly the additional opportunities for this project to do more on the climate crisis and support public health.

May Events

  • May 4 City climate action plan kick-off: public meeting of the newly formed Energy and Climate Task Force this Tuesday, May 4, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. FACS ALX will be closely following this process and advocating for bold and equitable climate action.   • May 5 presentation on high-performance development: real world examples of new development projects that slash energy needs and climate pollution, and how they are feasible in places like Alexandria. Wednesday, May 5, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., register here.
  • May 13 Landmark redevelopment community meeting: Opportunity to ask questions on how this important long-term development project can go beyond minimum City requirements to address climate while adding community amenities in the West End. Thursday, May 13, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (meeting and background info).
